Functional Description

Subject to the source from which CO2 gas is collected, the CO2 recovery process starts with a foam separator which drains foam from the incoming gas. Low flow, foam free gas, is then stored in a gas balloon, which - when full - will trigger the down stream process. After removal of the water soluble components (VOCs) in the Gas Washer, the gas is then compressed (to reduce volume) deoderized (removing sulphur components and odors) and dried. The refrigeration unit liquefies the incoming CO2 gas (further volume reduction) and purges the unwanted non-condensables (such as O2 & N2).  A stripping system provides additinoal CO2 purification, and transfers the liquid CO2 to storage tanks. Liquid CO2 remains in tanks until it is either consumed on site or exported from site. Onsite consumption is initiated by the vaporization of the liquid CO2  and safe pressure reduction.  Cold energy released during vaporization can be recovered using a LiquiVap or glycol heated Heat Recovery System. Export of liquid CO2 is normally transferred  to road tankers, and in some cases in cylinders. A road tanker pump exports liquid CO2 to a road tanker. A cylinder filling unit allows export via cylinders.

The CO2 recovery plant is integrated between the fermenters and the onsite consumers:
  • Bioethanol 
  • Distilling 
  • Natural water well / spring 

Integrated downstream of the CO
2 source, the recovery plant feeds onsite consumers and/or Industrial Gas Companies who draw the purified liquid CO2 from the onsite storage tanks. Biogas upgrading - biomethane to grid Integrated downstream of the biogas upgrading process, the recovery plant feeds greenhouses and/or the Industrial Gas Companies who draw the purified liquid CO2 from the onsite storage tanks.
